Terms of use
The rules for using Shareish, in plain words. By using the site you agree to them.
Last updated 12 October 2026.
1. About these terms
Shareish is run by a small team in Melbourne, Australia. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean that team. "You" means anyone who uses the site: a guest, a parent, or someone from an organisation.
You must be 18 or older to give a gift, make an invitation or apply for an organisation. Children don't use the service themselves.
2. What the service does
Shareish lets a parent make a birthday invitation with a short menu of things guests can give to. Each guest can reply and split a gift across the options.
We are a technology service. We are not a bank, a charity or an investment provider. We don't take part in the gift between the guest and the parent.
3. If you are a guest
- Coming without a gift is always fine. You choose whether to give.
- When you give, you choose how to split your gift across the options the parent offered. You can see the total you will pay, including the service fee, before you confirm.
- Your gift is paid to the child's parent. Once it is paid, it is the parent's money to use as described on the invitation.
- Other guests never see what you gave. The parent does.
- Give us a correct name and email so we can send your receipt.
4. If you are a parent
- You make the invitation, and you are responsible for what is on it. Use only the child's first name and age.
- You connect a Stripe account so that gifts can be paid to you. Stripe will check your identity and ask for your bank details. You agree to Stripe's own terms for that.
- The guest-facing page says plainly what each option is. For a pooled gift or an experience, you agree to use the money for that. For the future fund, you agree to put the money aside for the child.
- You keep your invitation link private to the people you invite. Anyone with the link can open the page.
- You may cancel the party. If you do, every guest is refunded in full (see section 8).
- You are responsible for any tax that applies to money you receive.
5. If you are an organisation
Charities, clubs and schools apply through the partner page and accept separate partner terms at that time. We review every application by hand. We list an organisation by name only if it has said we can, and we never say or suggest that an organisation endorses us unless it has joined.
6. Fees
Making an invitation is free. Each guest who gives pays a service fee on top of their gift. It covers card processing and the cost of running Shareish, and it is shown before you pay. Nothing is taken out of a guest's gift.
The parent pays a party fee, taken from the gifts as they arrive, by how many different guests give: $7 for 1 to 10, $11 for 11 to 20, $15 for 21 or more. It is shown when the invitation is made and again on the parent's page. If no one gives, there is no party fee. If a guest's whole payment is refunded, the party fee taken from that gift goes back too. The party fee is taken from the gifts as a whole, and a share that goes to a charity or community group is still passed on in full.
The 12-month pass. A parent can choose to pay for a pass that keeps the gift link open for 12 months. The usual price is $40 per parent, and one pass covers all of that parent's children. The special price is $30, from the party until 30 days after gifts close, and the party fee already paid counts toward it. The price is shown before you pay. While a pass is active there is no party fee on gifts, and guests still pay their service fee. The pass is one card payment. It does not renew by itself, and we will not charge you again unless you choose to buy another. When a pass ends, the link closes to new gifts, anything waiting is paid out to the parent, and the parent can still read the pot. We email the parent 30 days and 7 days before it ends, and on the day. The pass is our fee. It is never taken from, or mixed with, gift money.
7. Payments and Stripe
Stripe, a licensed payments company, collects every payment and pays the parent once, into their bank, a few days after gifting closes. Shareish never holds your money, never has a balance of anyone's cash, and never sees or stores your card details.
If a gift is refunded, or a bank reverses a payment (a chargeback), the amount is taken back through Stripe from the parent's Stripe account. During our early release, if a parent's account cannot cover that, we carry the loss, not the parent. We may change this, and we will tell parents before we do.
8. Refunds and cancelled parties
The full rules are on the refunds page. In short:
- A guest can ask for a refund of all or part of their gift. A part refund never includes the service fee. A refund of everything the guest paid includes the fee.
- If a party is cancelled, every guest is refunded in full, fee included.
- A share given to a charity or community group is refunded the same way. Until we tell you on the page that it is paid to the group directly, that share is paid to the parent, who passes it on.
9. Messages and pictures
- Write messages you would be happy for a child and their family to read. No abuse, bullying, hate, adult content, or anything unlawful.
- Only add a drawing or picture you are allowed to share. A photo of a child needs a parent's approval.
- Every message and picture is checked before a parent or child sees it. We may hold back or remove anything that doesn't pass.
- We never rewrite your message. We may offer a spelling check before you send it. The words on the card are yours.
- You keep ownership of what you write. You let us show it on the card to the people it is meant for, and print it for them.
10. The future fund
The future fund is a label on a share of a gift that is paid to the parent to put aside for the child. It is not an investment product or account, and Shareish does not hold, manage or invest it.
Anything we show about how money can grow over time is a simple illustration based on an assumption we state. It is not a forecast and not a promise. It is not advice about any product, and it takes no account of your situation. Real results can be lower, and money can go down as well as up. Speak to a licensed adviser if you want advice.
11. Our role and what we are responsible for
We work hard to keep the service running and your information safe, but we can't promise it will never be down or never have a fault. We are not a party to what the parent does with a gift once it has been paid to them.
Nothing in these terms takes away any right you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that can't be excluded. Where the law lets us limit our responsibility, we limit it to the amount you paid us in the last 12 months.
12. Suspending or ending access
We may suspend or end someone's access if they break these terms, misuse the site, or put anyone at risk. We will tell them why, unless the law or safety stops us. You can stop using the site at any time. You can ask us to delete your information, as the privacy policy explains.
13. Changes and the law
We may change these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you before it applies. These terms are governed by the law of Victoria, Australia, and the courts of Victoria.
14. Contact
Ask the person who sent you the invitation and they will pass it on to us.
